Microsoft PowerPoint contains built-in tools that allow you to customize the backgrounds of your slides with vibrant colors, patterns, photos, and gradients. Initially, there's only a plain white background on a PowerPoint slide. You can place images using  Format Background.

There are two ways to locate this option.

Click the slide you want to customize and click “Design” tab

Then go to the “Customize” section under the “Design” tab and click on “Format Background”.

To make the background a single color, choose Solid fill. Click the Color button to select a color from the palette.

To apply the background to all slides, click Apply to All.

Another option is fill your background with a color gradient. with that, you can create a slide that starts with a blue tone at the top that smoothly changes into purple at the bottom.

Finally Add a picture in a slide background.  Select Picture or texture fill to use any personal photo as your slide background. then click on insert. You can upload a photo from your device or choose from the stock images that Microsoft PowerPoint provides.

Set some Transparency for looking more batter if you want.

You can also right-click on the slide you want to customize or its thumbnail on the left side of the screen, and then select “Format Background” from the options. This method enables you to choose and modify the design elements of your slide's background.

Reset the background on a slide

You can do this by selecting the slide you want to update, Go to the “Format Background” and click on the “Reset Background” button from the “Customize” section under the “Design” tab

That should fix it. If the above tips don’t work for you – then leave a comment.

Thanks
